Alright, he we go, I'm John and I'm a food addict. Not the easiest thing to say, or admit to for that matter. I've been on the big side my whole life, basically a steady climb upward. As many of you know I did lose 70 lbs on weight watchers a few years ago, but gained it back twice over. The best way to put it is that I was showing my love by eating. While I don't overeat at the level I use to, the issue of a total lack of exercise (or any real physical activity) still lingers and is made worse by how much quicker I get worn out now and how limited my mobility is. The earlier weight loss has helped to stave off many of the health complications from being massively obese; it won't last much longer. After two failed runs on South Beach and two failed returns to WW a choice needed to be made. Sarah Bizek, friend and fellow cute person, provided the answer.
Early next year both Tia and I will be having Bariatirc Surgery. We're trying to decide between the Vertical Sleeve (which turns the stomach into a tube with the majority being removed, leaves the old path intact and cuts down on nutrition loss, but lacks long term data results) or the classic Gastric Bypass (which creates a new smaller stomach, brings up the small intestine to bypass the old stomach which still produces acids that meet up with the food after the junction point. This is where nutrition can be lost.) Our first prep appointments are next week. There is a mixture of excitement and fear: this is a HUGE life change. We'll have no choice but to eat healthier and better foods. We'll lose enough weight right off the bat that we can start doing meaningful exercise without the risks we currently have.
The goal of this is to share with others our journey. The name refers to our shrinking tummies letting us get closer together, cheek to cheek, lips to lips.
this blog is so brave. i've got goose bumps, and maybe even shed a few tears. i'm so happy for you, and so happy that i could be a part of the choice to look further into it/ i'm so proud, at the risk of sounding parenty or teachery. i look so forward to supporting you on this journey and seeing those results. but....where's the "before" photo?

ReplyDeleteI will be here with you guys, not exactly sharing your journey, but reading, traveling with you, cheering you on, lending support. Although we already know what you cuties look like, don't forget the before, during and after pics. You'll be really glad you have them someday.
Much luck!
We will have a before photo - just were waiting until our appointments were set up... needless to say, they were quicker than I thought they would be! :) We have a good friend lined up to take photos of us and we'll likely make it a weekly event after surgery - and an occasional type of thing as we lose weight prior to surgery.
