Struggling for Comfort

My greatest struggle in all of these Life Choices regarding food, is in finding comfort.  The other places I've turned to besides food during most of my life have been smoking… drinking… “Looking for love in all the wrong places”… and I’m not going back to any of that.  None of it makes life better.  In fact, all three of those things can destroy lives in more ways than one.

I’m thankful to have such an understanding husband.  I’m sure it makes him sad to know that he’s not my true comfort at this point of our lives.  Don’t get me wrong, he provides great comfort to my life – but what’s to comfort me when he’s the one disturbing my peace?  J

I had a rough time at work the last couple weeks.  All the new stresses of transitioning workloads and they are all good changes – but it takes time to get used to them.  It just means more time at work for a while until it’s in order and then most of that new stress will ease off.  But in the meantime… we increased our intake of fatty foods by eating out or ordering in.  I know in the long run that really isn't making me feel any better about work, nor is it truly relieving my stress.  But it just tastes so good, right?  No, it really doesn't most of the time taste THAT good.

I really haven’t figured out what will work yet on this comfort issue.  However, I do know crocheting isn't going to do it.  It’s lovely busy work for idle hands, however I’m not really a bored eater.  I’m an emotional eater.  I’ll keep my crocheting going, but I need more.

One of my goals from the Dietitian is to move into a new evening schedule, with much less screen time in my life.  I’m already pretty good at not being on the computer at home – unless I need to work late which thankfully isn't often.  I haven’t fully succeeded at this goal though.  I need to pick up my book, do some reading.

I also decided that maybe instead of feeding whatever demon or stress I’m going through that makes me want to eat Doritos and Cheese Dip, that I need to sit down in my office and write a letter.  Go to the bedroom and just do some relaxation or meditation.

I've been wanting to grow my relationship with God.  I haven’t really found my place in doing that yet – but I know it will be a part of how I move forward into a new comfort, and what greater comfort than His Love?

I’m pretty sure the answer to my comfort struggle lays above.

The #YoukerKitchenDanceParty continues, every other day or so…but yesterday, I GOT MY NEW SWIMSUIT!!  So after work today, John and I are heading to the pool at our apartment.  Should be a little easier on the joints for getting some exercise.

Thanks for reading.  We both really appreciate all the support we’re getting from our loved ones, friends and family alike.

    1. No luck on going to the pool today... I went to the Dr. for that BC implant, Nexplanon, and now I can't swim for at least 24 hours... boo. But yet, also yay!

  2. I LOVE the Youker Kitchen Dance Party!

If you want, let's catch up sometime soon - maybe I can share some resources with you to get connected to a daily time of prayer and devotion that will be compelling and meaningful for you.

And one of the workshops for our April conference is about how to "create a quiet time with God," too!

You are both beautiful people in every way, created in God's own image. :)

I grabbed some tips on praying from the prayer vigil last night but yes, catching up with you would be great! Meaningful is needed. :)

  3. It sounds to me that you are both on you way to gaining a better understanding of where you are and where you want to go. Like many things in our lives, it isn't always a black and white issue. The hardest part is getting to the reasoning to why we do the things we do. However, once we gain this understanding you have the power and weapons to make the change, even if it is only one day at a time. I am so proud of you two!!! Whether you think it or not, you guys are an inspiration! Love you!
